The Student Committee for the Arts at UCLA is the student branch of the world renowned UCLA Live and an on-campus programming board. SCA is the proud producer of its own series of shows that bring great artists and events to students, in addition to showcasing the various talents of UCLA student artists. Each spring, SCA brings a musical act to the beautiful and historic Royce stage. Past performers have included Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Janelle Monae, and Thao and the Get Down Stay Down.
On Wednesday, May 16, 2012, the UCLA Student Committee for the Arts (that’s us!), in conjunction with KCRW, is hosting
Portugal. The Man
at Royce Hall, joined by members of the
UCLA Philharmonic
performing an original score. Opening the show will be
Haim
— an LA buzzband who have been getting lots of much-deserved attention and
The Ten Thousand
— a UCLA student group who also performed at Arts in the Union.

In celebration of The Student Committee for the Arts at UCLA‘s 50th Anniversary, Portugal the Man will be joined for a special performance by select members of UCLA Philharmonia. Portugal the Man released their most recent studio album, “In the Mountain, In the Cloud,” in 2011 to rave reviews and have headlined countless shows and festivals across the country, including Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza. Support will be provided by cutting-edge LA buzz band and UCLA alumni, HAIM, with an opening set by current student group The Ten Thousand.
